Markus is originally from a small village near Sondershausen, Thuringia. He has a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology from the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena, where he completed his thesis in the group of Prof. Qualmann (Institute of Biochemistry). He continued with his master studies in Biochemistry at the University of Jena and joined Pierre’s group for his master’s thesis in January 2017, investigating the role of PKS genes in the social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum. Since 2018 he is continuing his project as a PhD student.
