Yusuke Hioki obtained his bachelor’s degree in Applied Biological Sciences from Gifu University, Japan. During his master’s studies, he worked on the isolation and structural elucidation of antibacterial natural products against oral pathogens from an African traditional remedy. Subsequently, he moved to Nagoya University, Japan, where he worked on the investigation of marine natural products and elucidation of their origins using metabolomic and metagenomic approaches. During this period, he was appointed Research Fellow DC2 of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Upon completing his Ph.D., he joined Pierre’s group as a postdoctoral researcher, holding the JSPS research fellowship PD, and is now working on the exploration and modulation of ancient natural products.

Outside of the lab, he harbors a passion for growing carnivorous plants from around the world. Unfortunately, he could not bring this collection with him to Germany.
