Dr. Rupali Sathe

Rupali obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Mumbai, India. With a growing curiosity in microbiology and biochemistry, she then joined the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune, India for her PhD. She worked with Dr. Amrita B. Hazra on the exchange of vitamin B1, purines and their biosynthesis intermediates. During this time, she got interested in the metabolic and ecological interactions of organisms with each other and joined Pierre’s group for her postdoctoral research. Her current work involves deciphering the molecular interactions of bacteria that inhabit microplastic surfaces with plastic and among themselves. This project is takes place within the framework of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena Excellence Cluster “Balance of the Microverse“.
